The Glass Working Lathe is for small and precision items with many possibilities of application in Modern Glass Workshops. It has application in research and development departments of Scientific & Defense Laboratories.
The SIMAR Brand Glass Working Lathe Model GBL 2 is a compact Lathe, designed for production purpose. The Lathe is ready on floor and requires 6'x 2.5' space only. Its heavy reinforced Cast iron bed provides rigidity, reduces vibrations and precision alignment of head and tail stock plus accurate synchronization of spindles.
The Spindles are designed to accept lever type scroll chucks. Easy, smooth traverse motion of the carriage is accomplished by a pinion and rack.
The Vee and Flat slid ways of the bed are accurately ground and covered by strong steel covers so that they are always protected by dirt and broken glass. As the Headstock are guided on a Vee slide of the bed they are self adjusting and consequently does not develop shake on the bed. Accuracy of alignment is thus maintained which is important to prevent breakage of the glass being worked on.
The drive to each spindles is by an entirely enclosed roller chains. The spindles run on ball bearings for smooth motion
These machines are built to close limits of accuracy. Much attention has been given to protect the machine from wear so as to maintain its accuracy. The motor is 1/2 hp x 1440 RPM single phase required
